Air ducts need to be maintained on a periodic basis to guarantee smooth performance. We suggest you get your air duct cleaned after every 3 to 5 years.
You can expect to pay between $5,000 and $8,000 for a basic system installation. More complex systems can cost anywhere from $7,500 to $11,500.
Follow the steps outlined below to size an HVAC system.
For starters, determine the total floor space of your house. You might have the dimensions written down somewhere in the original house plans. If not, you’ll just have to make the measurements yourself. Simply use a measuring tape to get the length and width of a room. Multiply those numbers to get the room’s square footage. Repeat the process for every area of your house and then combine all the obtained numbers.
The next step is BTU measurement. BTU (British Thermal Unit) measures the energy utilized for heating and cooling. To get its base value, multiply the number of square feet by 25.
Next up, you need to multiply 1.25 with the base BTU amount. Also, you can multiply the BTU amount by 25% if the ceiling of your home is higher than 8 feet. If the house is worth 1,500 square feet, the answer would be 37,500 BTUs.
You can now determine the size of the Air Conditioning and Heating units needed. Divide the number by 12,000 to get required tonnage for the air conditioner. And then divide the BTU by the efficiency of the furnace as a decimal.
The air conditioner, which is located outside the house, cools the air. It reduces temperature by using a coolant liquid and electrical energy. More so, it brings cold air inside and eliminates the hot air outside. The ductwork system transports hot and cold air throughout the house, and the thermostat is the controlling component of the system.
Air duct cleaning is a technical job, especially if you want every nook and cranny scrubbed properly. Also, the use of industrial tools such as a high-powered vacuum and rotary brushes is necessary, which you probably don’t have in your garage. Furthermore, a poor cleaning job may cause duct damage, requiring costly repairs in the long run. So, it’s best to leave this to the professionals.
You can experience mould growth in the home which will expose everyone living under your roof to coughing, sneezing, and multiple breathing problems.
A preventative HVAC maintenance plan includes the following stages.
- Analyzing the control systems and thermostats in your home.
- Inspecting and tightening all electrical connections.
- Ensuring all moving parts are properly lubricated.
- Examining every part of the blower.
- Checking the amount of refrigerant in the system.
- Inspecting and clearing the condensate drain.
- Checking for leaks
The importance of annual HVAC maintenance cannot be overstated. Without a regular tune-up, you can not keep your HVAC system operating smoothly.
